brokenness.

brokenness : rejected, defeated, or despairing; disrupted or divided.

brokenness can either define you or refine you.
We don' t experience brokenness unless we ourselves are broken or are not functioning at our potential in the first place. So, identifying and understanding our brokenness is part of the journey to wholeness.
If you are at this stage, congratulations, you are one step closer to experiencing the fullness and glory of God's workings in your life.

"wait, so you're saying that being broken is good?"
Well, in a sense, yes. Of course, no one's desire is to be a heap of brokenness. But lo, if you are broken it is good  to identify this brokenness in order that one can to nurture it back to health. Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to our spiritual life and walk with Christ. Brokenness, none the less, is devastating, frustrating, depressing, and most times lonely; especially if this brokenness is gone without notice.

Now, just because we can identify our brokenness does not mean that the road and journey to fullness of self will be smooth sailing; that is why I said identifying is the first step in a journey of recovery.
We will be placed in uncomfortable positions as we are being tweaked and shaped into God's desired form for us. it hurts. We are confronted with our brokenness head on.

but look.
 there ahead of you.
see and feel the glorious victory of Christ in our lives.
indescribable beauty is ahead.
so "be still" child and know that "I AM God."
trust and know that God has plans that will blow.your.minds.

How do we know that we will see the fruits of God's work? We don't know if we, ourselves, will see the fruits. But I do assure you that whatever God is doing, it is to bring all glory and honor to him.
This brings me an overwhelming amount of peace and I hope it does for you as well. Whether I see my brokenness come to full recovery or not, I can know that God is going to receive all glory and that is all I can desire. (but boy, I would love to see the glorious fruition of his victory in my life).

define or refine. it's up to you.

P.S.
I like the imagery of hands. they express so much. I love to imagine my hand in God's (or maybe just my hand clenched to his finger) as he guides me through unfamiliar territory.
Or when you are so deeply in love with someone all you desire is grab hold of their arm for  security, warmth, and love because no matter where you are, familiar or unfamiliar, you have each other and that's all that really matters.
